SPRINGFIELD BARNS

Holiday Cottages

We are the Cooke family. Ian, Donna, Ben and Ellie and not forgetting our beloved spaniels, Jasper (big bark, soft heart) and Sofia (beautiful, timid girl).

We settled in glorious Shropshire in 2009 and purchased the disused Springfield Barns as they were brimming with potential for an amazing homestead.  By late 2010, we had converted The Drift House into our family home. Then converting The Dairy in 2014 and The Parlour and The Coach House commenced in 2018. The Dairy and The Parlour became Holiday Cottages in Spring 2019. Both Cottages are beautifully appointed in a modern style with high quality furnishings and all the original exposed beams lovingly restored.

Springfield Barns is situated in the heart of the tranquil hamlet of Marton. Just on the outskirts of the village of Baschurch with its offering of pubs, takeaways, churches, doctors surgery, farm shop and large convenience store with cash point.  Shrewsbury is 10 miles way and Ellesmere is 8 miles away. The local bus, which operates between Shrewsbury and Ellesmere, collects and drops off on Springfield Barns main drive allowing guests to leave the car behind.

It's Shropshire that we have finally laid our hat and made our home county. It's a gem of a county with so much to explore within easy reach. The north of the county offers the meres, mosses and canals along with the county town of Shrewsbury. Whereas, the south of the county offers the stunning Shropshire Hills and food renowned market town of Ludlow. The county is home to Ironbridge World Heritage Site and nine National Trust sites including Attingham Park. Shrewsbury is the birthplace of Charles Darwin and is a wonder of medieval black and white buildings. The town offers fantastic dining, individual shops, craft markets, museums, art galleries and the stunning Dingle within the Quarry Park.

But if exploring around the county is further than you want to travel and you are looking for a more relaxing break, the local area offers excellent walks (flat and hilly) and very popular cycling routes (mountain and road). Also outstanding country pub dining and so many high quality tea rooms and coffee shops, you'll probably run out of days!

Springfield Barns is the perfect hub for a memorable holiday or short break away.

GUEST REVIEWS

Guest reviews since we reopened in early July 2020.

We had a fantastic long weekend staying in The Parlour. The cottage is immaculate, beautifully furnished and decorated with loads of storage in the bedroom, kitchen and utility. Springfield Barns is very dog friendly with a large shared field available for guests and The Parlour has a lovely fully enclosed lawned garden with young fruit trees. Donna and Ian are great hosts and have taken great care to present the cottage to its absolute best including ensuring that the whole cottage is spotless, which was especially appreciated during the COVID situation.  We’ve already booked again for this year as there is so much still to see and do in the surrounding area.   Lynne

We’ve just got back from a two-week stay at The Parlour. In these strange COVID times, we were a little apprehensive about staying away from home but we needn’t have been. Within moments of arriving we felt completely relaxed as the cottage was spotlessly clean and smelling fresh. It was clear that Donna strictly adheres to the current strict cleaning and sanitisation guidelines. The cottage, despite being one-bedroom, is spacious and very well designed from the practical and storage point of view. We were very comfortable. The multi fuel burner is a lovely addition, creating a cosy atmosphere on a couple of rainy days we had. Our standard poodle girl very much enjoyed running in the owners’ field, in addition to relaxing in the cottage’s secure garden. Donna has been a most welcoming and friendly host, offering tips on local attractions and walks. We will certainly recommend The Parlour to our friends and family. Thank you Donna.    D & M

It’s a little gem of a place. It’s so well equipped with good quality furnishings. Donna, the landlady is so friendly and welcoming. In these days of Covid 19 we felt absolutely safe as the cottage had been so well cleaned. It’s probably the nicest rented cottage we’ve stayed in. We would highly recommend it.    Geoffrey

Thank you for allowing us to stay in your cosy Dairy for the week. It was just the retreat we have been waiting for so long, you made it true. Thanks a ton for your hospitality.   Susanna & Barry

We stayed in The Parlour at Springfield Barns and is lovely inside and a nice garden, lovely and clean inside and a real home from home. Donna is a wonderful host and helped us during this current situation so we could get our holiday. I would not hesitate recommending Springfield Barns to my family and friends. 5 out of 5 stars from me. Fantastic. Hopefully be back one day.    Sarah & Paul

The Dairy is a great cottage. The kitchen is well stocked with pans and utensils, which was helpful. My wife and I did not want to eat in a lot of restaurants on this holiday.  It is in a nice quiet location.  You will want to have a car here as the nearest supermarket is a few minutes’ drive.  Overall very good and do recommend The Dairy.    Tom

Thank you for your hospitality, warm welcome and taking the time to chat with us. Your accommodation, The Dairy,  is wonderful and we would recommend to anyone.  We have had a wonderful week and hope to be back soon.    Pam & Graham.

The Parlour is a beautiful modern with no expense spared renovation with everything you need for a home from home holiday or short break. It's situated about 10 mins from Shrewsbury with plenty of things to see & do especially with dogs. The garden is nice & secure, also with the use of a field around the opposite side of the Springfield barns site, which is useful for the later walk before bedtime for your dogs. There are plenty of places to go with your dogs for walks around beautiful surrounding & wooded areas, Donna the owner is more than willing to recommend places to go & things to see in the area if you’re not too sure want you want to do. I would highly recommend the Parlour & would definitely stay there again when heading North West of England.    Ken

What a fab week we have had. Lovely cottage well equipped and perfect location. So clean and welcoming. Would definitely recommend.    Lucy

Had a fantastic stay at Springfield Barns!! The cottage is beautiful and well equipped. It has a lovely enclosed garden which is great if you have a dog. Donna is a wonderful host and goes the extra mile in providing not only a welcome basket for guests but also their dogs. She has a wealth of local knowledge and is very happy to share it. Would recommend a stay here to anyone whether you want to be active or just relax.    Lynne

Excellent, we can fully recommend The Parlour, Donna our host was most welcoming and couldn't do enough to make our stay a lovely experience. We certainly will use the Parlour for a future visit. David & Sandra

Thank you for an excellent stay at The Parlour. The cottage has fantastic facilities and is finished to an excellent standard. Donna was very welcoming and gave us some lovely recommendations for us to do on our stay. The homemade scones and welcome basket for us and our fur baby were a wonderful touch. We would love to return and thoroughly recommend!    Jessica
